Dubai Exiles Under 17 Girls Team Promising

01/01/70

Tournament Report:

The Dubai Exiles Junior Girls Team competed in the Sharjah Youth Tournament in the Girls U/17 Section recently making a very promising start to a relatively new section of our youth program.

The team played exceptionally well and punched well above their weight as the average age is only fourteen and they competed against girls that were aged up to seventeen years old. Not intimidated at all the team took runner-up honours on the day bringing home the 2nd place trophy as well as each receiving individual medals. The girls were all very excited about getting a chance to play and demonstrated their talent and benefits from attending training with the senior women's team. This bodes well for the future of women's rugby at Dubai Exiles as youth development is key to all the teams in the years to come.

Many more games will be organized in future for the girls teams, mostly with Sharjah who are currently developing girls rugby as well. They were coached by Wes Cook on the day and had guidance and assistance from some of the Exiles senior women's members.

The girls team consisted of Lauren Roberts (Captain), Georgia Withers, Gabby Couzens, Jessica Declerq, Lucy Nickerson, Alicia Cameron and Honor (who helped out for the day). All these players played exceptionally well and all have great potential for the future. Captain for the tournament Lauren Roberts is a player with enormous potential. Georgia Withers scored many of the teams tries but no one can really be singled out as all played exceptionally well for their first outing as a team. The junior team performed all their set pieces well, especially the lineouts and were tough in defense with their aggressive tackling putting in many hard-hitting tackles.

Well done to our junior girls on winning silverware in their first tournament!
